Dining room chairs Residence, Geneva, Switzerland

handblown project

This set of 14 vibrant fuchsia pink chairs was the only colour accent in an all-white Carrera marble dining room. In situ, they appear to float around the table – an effect achieved by crafting the back legs from polished sterling silver to reflect the white marble floor.

The appearance of fragility is heightened by front legs made of glass, each featuring a hand-blown crystal tube flooded with fuchsia colour, then ground and polished to create four facets. In reality, however, the chairs are structurally very strong – high tensile rods connect each foot to the chair frame so the glass takes no compression stress.

Each piece was intricately blown, carved, polished and measured by hand. Each piece had to be perfect.

The client was a manufacturer of furniture for super-yachts, and their work can be found in palaces, museums, galleries, corporate headquarters, residences and yachts around the world.
